You Are My Sunshine

This is one of Gram’s favourite songs. She didn’t need a special time to sing it. We could be shelling peas on the porch, baking chocolate chip cookies in the kitchen, watching rain clouds gather, or driving to the corner store to pick up a few groceries. She’d break into “You Are My Sunshine” whenever the mood hit her. She still does and she remembers every single word.

If you don’t know the song, maybe your grandma or grandpa can teach it to you. Give it a try. It’s sure to brighten your day. Put on your shades!

You are my Sunshine

You are my sunshine
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are gray.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.

The other night, dear,
As I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms.
When I awoke, dear,
I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried.

You are my sunshine,
My only sunshine.
You make me happy
When skies are gray.
You'll never know, dear,
How much I love you.
Please don't take my sunshine away.
