Brainy Jokes

I have a knack for writing and telling stories, especially funny ones. I think I get that from my grandmother who shared some pretty spectacular tales over the years. The two of us are very close and my pet name for her is Nanna Banana. She tells me that I have a gift for making people laugh. What isn’t funny is that I seem to be losing her to Alzheimer's disease.

Something else that hurts is to hear people joking about the disease. I think they do that because they don’t know any better. Maybe deep down, they’re even afraid of getting the disease. People need to know that Alzheimer's disease is a disease like any other and those that have it should be treated with respect and dignity.

There’s nothing comical about Alzheimer's disease but I enjoy trying to cheer up Nanna whenever I can. It’s good for her to laugh and I make sure that I laugh with her not at her.

The other day she put her jacket on inside out and was upset about it. I dashed to the bathroom and came out with my clothes on backwards and shoes on the wrong feet. Nanna took one look at me, clapped her hands, and simply howled.

Here are some jokes Nanna would definitely approve of.
Can you think of others?

I hope you find these jokes funny, but if not, maybe you could come up with some better ones!! Send them to me at: info@alzheimer.sk.ca.
