Learning Series
   
 

The Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan offers a series of learning opportunities to people who have Alzheimer's disease, their care partners, family members and friends who are involved with their care. Each learning opportunity is designed to address different aspects and stages of the disease process.

Care Essentials

Care Essentials is a five-week learning series designed for family members and friends who are caring for someone in the middle stages of Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Topics include:

  • What to Expect: the progression of dementia
  • Caregiver Journey: what are the emotions, roles, changes, risks, and other experiences associated with caring for someone with dementia
  • Day to Day Care: strategies for communication and activities of daily living
  • Understanding Behaviour:
  • Community Resources

Options for Care

This three week learning series is for friends and family members of persons who are in the later stages of the disease and may be requiring increased care. Topics include:

  • Increasing Care Needs of Your Family Member
  • Long-Term Care: How the System Works
  • Coping with Change

End of Life

This is a three week learning series for family caregivers of persons who are in the later stages of the disease and may be living in long-term care. It discusses quality of life at the end of life for persons with dementia and provides an overview of advanced dementia and caregiving issues. Discussion topics include:

  • Communication and Behaviour changes
  • Identifying and Alleviating discomfort
  • Difficult Decisions
  • Family Dynamics
