Gift Annuities -- "Give and Receive"
A Charitable Gift Annuity combines a gift to the Alzheimer Society with an annuity. It is an arrangement in which you transfer a sum of money to the Alzheimer Society for the purpose of purchasing a prescribed annuity that will provide you with guaranteed payments for life or for a fixed time period. The Society will purchase the annuity on your behalf through a life insurance company.
The amount of the donation to the Society, the size of the charitable receipt and the amount of money you will receive on a monthly or annual basis will vary depending on the original amount invested, your income goals, and your age. If you are over 70 years of age, this can be a very attractive way to make a significant donation, receive a guaranteed monthly income and receive some immediate tax benefits.
The purchase of a Charitable Gift Annuity through the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan will allow you to make an immediate gift to the Society during your lifetime, rather than postponing the gift until after your death. You will receive a charitable contribution receipt for the difference between the total amount of your contribution and the amount that it cost to purchase the annuity. As well, you will only be taxed on the subsequent income from the annuity that is over and above the original amount that it cost to purchase the annuity.
The establishment of a prescribed gift annuity requires technical knowledge from an insurance agent or financial advisor. It is recommended that you consult with your insurance agent, financial advisor and family when considering this type of planned gift.
